Hi all,
Its your first time joining a Climbing competition and I know most of you must be feeling the jitters now. Competitions are fun and exciting, and I hope it is an experience that you will remember fondly after many years. Just like to share again the tips & advice that I've given you all that day.
One day before Pumpfest (aka Thursday)
1. Avoid any strenuous physical activity - You want to ensure that your body is in the best condition, and avoid risks of getting injuries or suffering from muscle aches.
2. Relax - A calm and relaxed mental state really helps during the competition, so relax and don't think about the competition at all. Do something you really enjoy e.g. watch a movie, go have a nice meal with friends. But remember, don't tire yourself too much either.
3. Drink lots of water & sleep well - Sleep at least 7-8 hours to ensure that your body is well rested.
On the day of Pumpfest (aka Friday)
1. Be at the competition venue on time.
2. Bring along some small bites to fill your stomach; you won't know the exact time that you start until you reach the competition venue and you might get hungry. Bring enough water.
3. Warm up about 10-15 minutes before your climb. Suggested exercises: Jumping jacks, push-ups, planks, hand swings (very fast, large circles). Remember, do enough to warm up your muscles not strain them.
4. During the competition, try to keep calm and observe how others climb and pick up as many tips from their climbs as possible, especially those who successfully completed the routes. Route-reading is important. Try to visualise your movements on the route, and visualise yourself successfully completing the route.
5. Have fun & enjoy yourselves! Competitions are fun, remember that!
Lastly, just like to share an inspiring & exciting video.
