Pumpfest!

Hi all,

Its your first time joining a Climbing competition and I know most of you must be feeling the jitters now. Competitions are fun and exciting, and I hope it is an experience that you will remember fondly after many years. Just like to share again the tips & advice that I've given you all that day.

One day before Pumpfest (aka Thursday)
1. Avoid any strenuous physical activity - You want to ensure that your body is in the best condition, and avoid risks of getting injuries or suffering from muscle aches.

2. Relax - A calm and relaxed mental state really helps during the competition, so relax and don't think about the competition at all. Do something you really enjoy e.g. watch a movie, go have a nice meal with friends. But remember, don't tire yourself too much either.

3. Drink lots of water & sleep well - Sleep at least 7-8 hours to ensure that your body is well rested.

On the day of Pumpfest (aka Friday)
1. Be at the competition venue on time.

2. Bring along some small bites to fill your stomach; you won't know the exact time that you start until you reach the competition venue and you might get hungry. Bring enough water.

3. Warm up about 10-15 minutes before your climb. Suggested exercises: Jumping jacks, push-ups, planks, hand swings (very fast, large circles). Remember, do enough to warm up your muscles not strain them.

4. During the competition, try to keep calm and observe how others climb and pick up as many tips from their climbs as possible, especially those who successfully completed the routes. Route-reading is important. Try to visualise your movements on the route, and visualise yourself successfully completing the route.

5. Have fun & enjoy yourselves! Competitions are fun, remember that!

Lastly, just like to share an inspiring & exciting video.

Hello everybody thats reading! this is gonna be quite a long first post

A little about myself and why im back here climbing with you guys @ njc. As an former OAC-ian , ive always liked monkeying around and climbing up structures during pioneering and stuff. so climbing has been quite natural to me. NJC when i was still ard had no climbing group or team and climbing was more of something i liked but didnt know much about and had no one to tell me what to do.. thus i didnt get to pick up climbing in NJC, thankfully i got another chance in NUS after my army. I believe that me being back here is hopefully to create an opportunity to you guys that was never offered to me before.

I believe my job here at NJC climbing/OAC is not really only to teach you guys how to climb well. Im here to show you what is actually possible ,what people elsewhere in the world are doing. so that you, in turn can aim for the stars and land in the clouds. In the near future there is no doubt that you guys will become stronger than me.But im really looking forward to that day coz its going to be a hell lot of fun. =)

Climbing also brings me to various places. here are some of the movies of places i have visited or will be visiting.Been to Msia, Thailand, India.. im also planning a trip to HK and China to climb somewhere in June,July

Weekly Climbing Sessions (23 March)

Weekly climbing session will be on as usual on Tuesday (23 March).

The following will be the rough plan for this Tuesday:
  • Warm-up on Climbing wall (climb at least 2 lanes)
  • Stretching (to be led by an OAC member)
  • Free time to boulder (about 10 to 15 minutes); please target to finish at least one of the short routes that you have not managed to complete before
  • Mini bouldering competition; to break-up into small groups and each to set a route to challenge the other groups (10 minutes to set the routes)
  • Warm down session
  • Stretching
If possible, please let me know the number of people coming down for the session. It will aid me in my planning.
